Best Candidates
Your dental alignment will be influenced by several factors: genetics, thumb sucking as a child, the loss of a tooth or teeth, or a traumatic accident to the face. Misaligned teeth can lead to other oral health problems, including a bad bite (dental malocclusion), ground-down enamel, difficulty chewing and speaking, plus toothaches and jaw pain. If a member of our MINT dentistry team sees early signs of one of these issues at your annual examination, we might suggest Invisalign®.
Invisalign® is great for teens and adults who would like to improve their smile but without the appearance and hassle of traditional metal orthodontics. While your aligners should be in at least 20 hours a day, Invisalign® can be removed so you can brush your teeth and eat, plus for playing sports and special events. More discreet than traditional braces, most people won't know that you're wearing your Invisalign® trays.
What to Expect
Your first set of Invisalign® trays will be made from the digital x-rays taken at MINT dentistry. You will return to get your first set of aligners and specific care instructions from your dentist. You will need to use your aligners at least 20 – 22 hours each day for the system to be effective, with the goal of removing them only for eating and cleaning. Over time, you should switch to your second set of aligners so they can continue to shift your bite into their proper position. You should plan to attend follow-up appointments as recommend by your dentist so we can check your progress and get more digital x-rays taken so new sets of aligners can be made. How long you will need to wear your aligners will depend on your starting bite and your goals. Most patients use Invisalign® for about 1 – 2 years.
Treatment Aftercare
Once you are done with your last set of Invisalign® trays, it is crucial to make sure your teeth stay in their new position. Invisalign® Vivera® retainers are designed with the same comfortable materials as the aligner trays to help keep your teeth in place after your treatment is complete. Your retainer is custom made at the Invisalign® dental lab from digital x-rays taken once your treatment is complete. A member of the MINT dentistry team will speak with you about when to use your retainer and care instructions after it's sent back to our office. Our team will continuously monitor your teeth alignment and bite during your dental examinations in case there is any movement.
The MINT Commitment
In many cases, at least a part of your costs for an Invisalign® treatment is paid by dental insurance. We will get more information on your specific policy coverage and then determine your personal cost. MINT dentistry accepts many different payments to cover your out-of-pocket expenses or if you aren't using insurance. At your initial consultation, MINT dentistry’s support staff can go over your estimated bill and how we can help make your Invisalign® treatment more affordable with low-interest medical financing and flexible payment plans. It's important to remember that a gorgeous smile is an invaluable asset. MINT dentistry is dedicated to helping you afford the smile you want.
